The work seems to be characterized by a healthy eclecticism that permeates most of its parameters. On the surface, the thematic ideas suggest a playful, tongue-in-cheek quality which is, however, undercut by the technical and musical demands made on the performers. Harmonically, the piece exhibits a rich palette of sonorities.
